Forty years ago today I was working at a small cabinet shop, Cobos and Sons, in Santa Fe Springs, California. I walked out to my car to eat my lunch and turned on the radio just in time to hear "....dead at forty-two." Then an Elvis song came on. Maybe you had to be around back then to understand the impact on the music world, pop culture and just everyday life. It was a loss. Some moments in time you just don't forget.
I was always a fan of Elvis, maybe not a raging fan, but a fan. I still am. It's hard to believe it was forty years ago today.
