The Last Buffalo......

Now, I don't really know if this is the last buffalo in the greater Los Angeles area or not but it's the last buffalo I ever saw in the area.  There were actually two buffalo, along with some cattle on Highway 39, just as you left the city of Azusa and entered Azusa Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains.

I would see these buffalo every time I went fishing in the canyon. The buffalo were there for as long as I can remember and then one day they weren't. As I recall, one went first and the other was alone for several years. Then one day the second one was gone and that was the end of that.

Not too long after that the entire area was sold to a development company and condominiums filled the area. That was the beginning of the change in the Azusa Canyon area.

I don't remember exactly when I took this photograph but It was probably some time around 1979 or 1980. I'm glad I did.

On the Streets of Boyle Heights

I took this photo a while back, but never got around to posting it, of some local musicians, presumable Mariachi's, waiting around for a gig outside El Appetito Mexican Restaurant on the corner of  Cesar Chavez Avenue and Chicago Street, in Boyle Heights. I thought it might make an interesting photo.  I think I was right.

The Bird Bath

I was watering in the backyard today and filled up the bird bath with fresh clean water, almost immediately, several birds jumped in the water and were splashing away. I went in to get my camera but they were gone by the time I got back. A few moments later this lone bird came by. He didn't seem bothered by me so I took his picture. Nothing pleases me more than to see the birds use the bird bath.

Baptism at the San Gabriel Mission - 1982

This photo of Jeri, Andrew and I was taken 30 years ago, in 1982, at the San Gabriel Mission in San Gabriel, California. The occasion was our son Andrew's baptism. The Godparents are Sergio and Denise Billings. Seems like yesterday.
