An Old Wood Spool Repurposed

I found this leftover piece from an old telephone cable spool in 1973. I made a coffee table for my mother using a half of an old whiskey barrel for a base.

She gave it back to me years ago (1978) when she bought new furniture. I put a new base on it and used it for years as a corner table for picture frames and knick knacks.

I burnt it lightly along the grains but kept it rustic looking. I applied several coats of polyurethane. It took on a beautiful reddish hue.

It's been laying around for the last twenty years, inside the room behind the garage or outside, getting properly weathered.

I'm thinking about bringing it back to life again as a coffee table. Which is why I kept it around for so many years.
